About two years after adopting my son in 1989, I chose to leave the field of psychiatric rehab to work in adoption. I gained experience by facilitating pre-adoptive foster placements for an adoption agency. In addition to a master’s degree in rehab counseling, I hold one in social work, which qualified me to perform home studies for domestic and international adoptions.
When I initially decided to become a mother I immersed myself in the world of adoption and eventually became president and newsletter editor of a support group, New York Singles Adopting Children (NYSAC). I subsequently began conducting adoption-related workshops and writing articles and book reviews for publication, endeavors I continue to engage in and thoroughly enjoy.
Developing an adoption practice has been deeply gratifying, both personally and professionally. I have the luxury of a flexible work schedule and time to devote to my child’s needs. Blending my personal and professional interest in child development, adoption, and the complicated and complex gestalt called “family” has enriched my life immeasurably. My ideas are continually evolving and changing.
As an adoption practitioner, I keep abreast of emerging trends and current information. My services include pre-adoption counseling (often concerning issues of ambivalence and decision-making), consultations about adoption options, home studies, post-adoption counseling, and post-placement reports for domestic and international adopters. I have adoption agency, as well as, family and surrogate court affiliations.
I gladly work with traditional and non-traditional families, including singles and gay and lesbian couples pursuing agency or independent adoption, second parent or stepparent adoption, or re-adoption. I welcome your inquiries.
